Given that the 4th gen iPad is over four years old in the market, an internal memo sent by Apple instructs its employees to consider a replacement to the iPad Air 2.

This doesn’t mean that every broken 4th gen iPad will be replaced with an iPad Air 2 as the case will be determined based on the kind of stocks they have in your region. But it’s still some good news for the customers to know that their aging iPad will be replaced with a newer model.

Here’s an excerpt of the memo sent by Apple – “Starting March 30, iPad 4th generation whole unit repairs may be substituted to iPad Air 2 models. Apple’s repair and order management tool will indicate for each repair if a substitution will take place. Please note the substitute part’s color and capacity to ensure the customer understands what their replacement iPad whole unit will be.

We’re guessing the memo was sent to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service providers globally. However, it might take some time to see these changes everywhere given that some regions might still have stocks of the fourth-gen iPad. It’s also important to note that Apple will try to repair the affected iPads first, and replace them only if it cannot be fixed.
