The new Apple Watch Series 5 is a worthy iteration over the complete redesign that was Series 4. Apple has refined and improved the watch and added one great feature that we had been waiting for years – Always-on display. Here are all the best Apple Watch Series 5 features you should know about.
Best Apple Watch Series 5 Features
The Apple Watch Series 5 starts at $399 for GPS model and $499 for GPS + Cellular model.
1. Always On Display
The biggest feature on the Apple Watch Series 5 is the new always-on display. This is something that we’ve been waiting for since, well, the first Apple Watch. And Apple finally figured out how to do it. Apple has a whole new technology stack that works with the display and the processor. It only lights up parts of the display and does it in a way that requires very little energy.
So now you can know the time and details from your complications without raising your wrists. This is great if you’re working out, or if you’re stuck in a subway where you can’t move your hand.
The screen also intelligently dims and brightens as you move your wrist.
2. New S5 Chip
The Apple Watch Series 5 comes with a new S5 chip. This is the fifth version of Apple’s new System-in-Package chip that contains all the processing units in one chip.
3. New W3 Wireless Chip
There’s a new W3 chip in the Series 5 Apple Watch that will make it easier and faster to connect with other Apple devices.
4. 32GB Storage
Series 5 Apple Watch bumps up the storage from 16GB to 32GB. That’s a lot of space to sync podcasts, music, and audiobooks that you can then listen to without your iPhone.
5. Built-in Compass
Just like the iPhone, the Apple Watch now has a built-in compass. This helps you navigate directly from the watch face. You can also open the compass app and see the full compass view on the whole screen.
6. International Emergency Calling
Apple is taking the Emergency SOS feature to a whole new level. The cellular model now supports emergency services calling in 150 countries, even if you don’t have an iPhone.
7. New Maps App Supports Compass
The Maps app also now supports the compass. This means that when you’re navigating using the Apple Watch Maps app you’ll be able to view your which direction you’re pointing in, from the Maps app.
8. New Titanium Finish
There’s a new Apple Watch Edition that comes in a brand new Titanium finish. It starts at $799. There are two versions, the standard Titanium case and the Space Black option. The Space Black version especially looks cool.
9. New White Ceramic Model
The Ceramic mode is back in Series 5 but only in one color – White. It’s the most elegant feeling Apple Watch that you can buy and it starts at $1299.
10. New Hermes and Nike + Models
And as usual, there are Hermes and Nike+ models for Series 5 too, with new bands and watch faces. The Nike+ models will be available later in October.
