U2 made an appearance at the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch launch event to not only perform, but to also announce that their latest album “Songs of Innocence” was free to all iTunes users.
We’ve received quite a few emails asking us how to download the album. So here’s a guide on how to download the free album on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
You first need to ensure that the Show All Music toggle under Music in the Settings app is enabled, so that all music that has been downloaded or that is stored in iCloud is shown. This seems to be enabled by default.
Note: If you’ve Automatic Downloads enabled for Music in the Settings app (Settings > iTunes & App Store), then the album should be downloaded automatically and available in the Music app.
If you haven’t enabled automatic downloads, then you can follow these steps to download U2’s album.
- Launch the iTunes Store app from the Home screen.
- Tap on the More tab at the bottom.
- Tap on Purchased
- Tap on Music
- Tap on Not on This iPhone (Not on This iPad/iPod touch) tab at the top
- Tap on U2 from the list, you may need to scroll down if you download lot of music from the iTunes Store.
- Tap on the Songs of Innocence album
- Tap on the iCloud icon at the top to download the entire album or tap on the iCloud icon next to the songs to download them individually.
That’s it. You should now be able to play the album in the Music app.
Please note that the album is available for download till October 13, so if you’re a U2 fan don’t miss this chance to download the album for free. Note: When you tap on a track it will just stream the song, to ensure that you can access it after the October 13 deadline, it is recommended to tap on the iCloud icon to download it to your device, which will ensure that is added to your iCloud account as well.
