Planning on buying the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, but have some questions about it? To help make your decision easier and to clear all doubts that you have about Apple’s latest iPhones, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and answered them for you.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were unveiled by Apple in early September. The handsets are powered by company’s new quad-core A10 chipset and come in two new colors: Jet Black and Matte Black. You can read about the top five features of the handset here.

Q) What are the full specifications of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?

Q) What kind of SIM card slot does the phone have? Does the iPhone 7 feature dual-SIM functionality?

A) The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus features a nanoSIM card slot. It does not, however, come with dual-SIM functionality.

Q) What does the IP67 certification of the iPhone 7 means?

A) The IP67 certification on the new iPhones makes them dust and water-resistant for up to 30 mins in 1m depth of fresh water.

Q) If my iPhone 7 ends up getting damaged by water, will it still be covered under warranty?

A) Despite the new iPhones coming with an IP67 certification, the handsets are not covered by Apple for warranty repairs for any kind of water damage.

Q) Is the display on the iPhone 7 protected by Gorilla Glass?

A) The displays on both iPhones are not protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Instead, Apple uses its own dual ion exchange glass that is as strong and scratch resistant as Gorilla Glass, if not more.

Q) What is the difference between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?

A) The iPhone 7 Plus has a bigger display (5.5-inch) than the iPhone 7 (4.7-inch). The bigger display also makes the iPhone 7 Plus bigger and heavier than the iPhone 7. It also comes with a bigger 2900mAh battery compared to the 1960mAh battery of the iPhone 7. This allows the iPhone 7 Plus to offer significantly better battery life than its smaller sibling.

Perhaps the key difference between the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7, is that the former features a dual-camera setup at its rear that allows it to support 2x optical zoom. In comparison, the iPhone 7 only features a single 12MP shooter at its rear with 5x digital zoom.

Q) Is the home button on the new iPhones touch based?

A) Yes, the home button on the new iPhones is capacitive in nature. Thanks to a new taptic engine, the capacitive home button when pressed still gives a feeling of being pressed though it’s not particularly life-like.

Q) How many fingerprints can one register on the iPhone 7?

A) 5.

Q) What is the new Portrait mode that Apple touts about on the new iPhones? Is it available on both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?

A) With the release of iOS 10.1, Apple has added a new Portrait mode to the camera app of iOS. The new mode lets users take pictures of subjects with a bokeh effect similar to how a DSLR does. The feature is only available on the iPhone 7 Plus since it makes use of the phone’s telephoto lens.

Q) Can I always use the optical zoom feature on the iPhone 7 Plus?

A) No. The secondary telephoto lens on the iPhone 7 Plus cannot be used while taking photos in low-light or when taking macro shots with a distance of less than 40cm between the subject.

Q) I heard iPhone 7 doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, so how do I connect my favourite pair of headphones with a 3.5mm jack to the new iPhone?

A) The iPhone 7 lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, it uses the Lightning port for music playback. To tide over this problem, Apple includes a Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack so that you can use your existing headphones and earphones with a 3.5mm jack on the iPhone. 7

Q) Are photos taken from the telephoto lens of the same quality as the primary 12MP shooter? 

A) No, the photos taken from the secondary f/2.8 12MP telephoto lens of the iPhone 7 Plus is not of the same quality as the primary 12MP shooter. This is due to the difference in their aperture and the lack of OIS on the latter. However, for the functionality that it provides, the telephoto lens is able to take more than decent pictures.

Q) Does the iPhone 7 support LTE and VoLTe networks? 

A) Yes, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus support LTE-A with download speeds of up to 450Mbps. They also support VoLTE.

Q) Do the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus support Reliance Jio network, including voice calling?

A) Yes, the new iPhones are fully compatible with Reliance Jio network, including support for its VoLTE network.

Q) Do the new iPhones support any kind of fast charging technology?

A) Sadly, no. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus do not feature fast charging technology. Apple has also gone back to bundling a 5W charger with the handsets which mean that they take a really long time to charge. The iPhone 7 Plus can take more than 3 hours to go from 0-100 percent when charged using the stock charger, while the iPhone 7 takes more than 2 hours.

You can, however, speed up the charging times slightly by using a 10W or 12W charger.

Q) How much free storage space does the 32GB iPhone 7 have out of the box? Is it worth going for one?

A) Almost 24GB out of the box. If you don’t click many pictures, you can consider buying the 32GB iPhone 7.

Q) Can you uninstall or disable pre-installed iOS apps on the new iPhones?

A) Yes, you can uninstall most of the pre-installed apps on iOS 10 on the new iPhones. This is a new feature that Apple has introduced with iOS 10. However, uninstalling a system app will not free up space on the internal storage of the handset.

Q) What contents do you get inside the retail box of the iPhone 7?

A) You get the phone, a 5W charger, a USB-Lightning cable, SIM ejector tool, EarPods with Lightning port, and some regulatory papers.

Q) Should I buy the Jet Black iPhone 7?

A) While the Jet Black iPhone 7 looks gorgeous, it is a fingerprint magnet. It also easily picks up scratches and abrasions very easily thereby making the use of a case necessity.
