Here’s some good news if you’ve an older iOS device.

You will be able to download an older version of an iOS app if the latest version is not compatible with your device.

This was spotted by a reddit user, AutumnSprings, who wrote:

Legacy iOS users, rejoice! App Store now let’s you download a compatible version of an app if the newest version isn’t compatible.

If you try to download an app whose latest version is not compatible with your device, then you will get the prompt, as seen below, asking if you want download the last compatible version of the app.

However, before you get excited it is important to note that the older version of the app will not work if the external API has changed and hasn’t been updated in the older version. You should still be able to find a lot of older version of apps that will work just fine. This is also applicable for users who haven’t upgraded their device to the latest version.

It is not clear when Apple made the change to the App Store, but it’s a very good move by Apple, which older iOS device users will definitely appreciate.

Let us know how it goes in the comments.
