Apple finally unveiled its hugely anticipated next generation iPhone – iPhone 4S at the Let’s Talk iPhone event yesterday.

iPhone 4s comes with a number of new features and improvements. One of the major new features is an all-new 8-megapixel camera.

iPhone 4S’ camera also comes with a custom lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture, improved backside illumination sensor, auto white balance, advanced color accuracy, face detection, and reduced motion blur. Schiller had also revealed at yesterday’s keynote that the iPhone 4S’ CMOS backside illuminated sensor — gets 73% more light than the iPhone 4 sensor, and 1/3rd faster. On top of that, Apple has also placed a high-end IR filter for greater accuracy and uniformity.

To find out what that means to picture quality, Apple has posted a series of original and unretouched photographs taken using iPhone 4S’ camera on the Camera features page and they are quite impressive.

One of our pain points of iPhone 4’s camera is, it is too slow, we hear that iPhone 4S camera thanks to the faster dual-core A5 chip is a lot quicker.

Are you impressed? Will iPhone 4S replace your point and shoot camera? Let us know your views in the comments.
