Just as we got used to the space grey, gold and silver iPhone, Apple upped the ante this year offering the iPhone 7 in a bevy of metallic colors, including a new striking jet black and a renamed black, which is basically a reimagined space grey. Apple also did away with the glaring antenna bands that streaked across the top and the bottom of previous iPhone models. These antennas have been moved closer to the edge of the phone, making them less obtrusive. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available in all five color options, so which one are you going to choose? Read on for some useful tips to help you decide!

Black

The black iPhone keeps the tri-toned coloring of previous models, but tones it down a bit. The anodized aluminum back plate is much darker than previous models — more black than grey. It also has a black front plate and dark grey bands across the edges. It’s a sleek coloring that looks great all the time. The dark color also helps to hide the dirt, though it may show off scratches a bit more than its white counterparts. The black iPhone also is prefect for watching movies, which look great against the dark borders of the phone.

All New Jet Black

The new jet black iPhone is an exciting color choice. It is darker than the existing Space Grey iPhone, which is more a dark grey than a pure black. It also has a shiny finish unlike the matte colors Apple traditionally has used. Apple uses a special manufacturing process to achieve this shiny, jet black coloring. Though striking, this color option has its drawbacks. Even Apple warns that this outer sheen on the jet black phone is more prone to showing scratching and scuffing than previous matte models. If you manage to get your hands on a highly-prized jet black iPhone, you may want to pick up a case if you want to keep the device pristine.

Gold

Gold is like licorice — some people hate it while others absolutely love it. One thing is for sure — Apple has done an excellent job with the gold color option. It’s a fantastic shade — closer to champagne in hue than a tacky yellow gold. The gold back side has white antenna bands at the edges and is complemented by a white-colored front plate. It stands out from the traditional black and silver options, which often are spotted in the wild. Because it is a white phone with gold accents, this color choice may hide scratches better than its black counterpart, but it also will show more dirt and grime. If you go with this model, get a good lint-free cleaning cloth so you can clean the phone without scratching it.

Rose Gold

Paired with a white-colored front face plate, and matching bands on the edges, the rose gold iPhone looks classy. Similar to the gold iPhone, the rose gold model will turn heads when you use it in public. Pair it with a rose gold Apple Watch and you will be unforgettable. Just be careful how you use it as the white coloring tends to highlight the dirt and grime more than the dark colored casing of the black model. The rose gold color is probably the only way for someone to figure out you’re rocking the latest iPhone.

Silver

Like the gold and rose gold version, the silver iPhone has a white-colored front plate and light gray bands across the edges. The back plate is a silver colored anodized aluminum that is much lighter in hue than the black model. Once again because it is a white phone, it likely will hide any superficial scratches, but definitely will show off the dirt.

Which color will you choose?

Color is so subjective that there is no perfect choice that we can recommend as the best. Look at the range of colors and pick the one that best suits your style. Make your choice and don’t look back. If you get tired of the shade you selected, you always can,add a case to change its appearance down the road. Will you be purchasing an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus?
