TomTom had announced back in June that their turn-by-turn GPS application for the iPhone with voice navigation was coming soon to the iPhone App Store.
MacRumors is reporting that four regional versions of TomTom's much-awaited iPhone app have finally appeared on New Zealand and Australian App Store after more than two months of waiting.
TomTom is one of the market leaders in Portable Navigation Devices
(PNDs) and deals with digital mapping and routing on car navigation.
Back in June, TomTom had provided the following information on their website about their highly anticipated iPhone app:
"The TomTom solution combines two
new TomTom products to provide users with state of the art in-car
navigation on their iPhone 3G:
- The TomTom navigation application
for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom’s award-winning turn-by-turn
navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele
Atlas;- The TomTom car kit for iPhone; a
specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS
performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car
charging."
You can checkout the video of Apple's WWDC Keynote address where TomTom's CTO had demonstrated their iPhone app making using of iPhone OS 3.0 features:
The four regional versions of TomTom's much-awaited iPhone app have finally appeared on New Zealand and Australian App Store and the pricing is as follows:
- TomTom U.S. & Canada: NZ $124.99 (US $84.41) – (App Store link)
- Western Europe: NZ $179.99 (US $121.55) – (App Store link)
- Australia: NZ $104.99 (US $70.90) – (App Store link)
- New Zealand: NZ $119.99 (US $81.03) – (App Store link)
The prices mentioned above obviously includes only the iPhone app and not the TomTom car kit for the iPhone that was demonstrated at Apple's WWDC Keynote address.
Though the iPhone apps are currently available only on NewZealand and Australian App Stores, we expect them to be available in other countries soon.
Update:
If you search for the iPhone apps in iTunes, they don't show up, but the direct App Store links provided above seem to be working if you are in Europe. But links don't work in the US. So looks like the iPhone apps will be available at midnight. Thanks Fishq for the heads up.
Update 1:
As expected, the TomTom app is now available in the US and Canadian App Stores as well. However, the prices of the iPhone apps are higher than what we had expected. The pricing is as follows:
- TomTom U.S. & Canada: NZ $124.99 (US $99.99) – (App Store link)
- Western Europe: NZ $179.99 (US $139.99) – (App Store link)
- Australia: NZ $104.99 (US $79.99) – (App Store link)
- New Zealand: NZ $119.99 (US $94.99) – (App Store link)
There are more localized versions available in the European App Stores, which are available at a lower price.
Thanks folks for the heads up.
We would love to know if you will buy TomTom's iPhone app at the above prices in the comments section below.
