We’ve already seen the purported iPhone 5 cases and the iPhone 5 design mockups based on them.
Folks at GizChina report that Chinese counterfeiters have gone a step further. They’ve already started producing iPhone 5 knockoffs based on the purported iPhone 5 cases, even before iPhone 5 is officially launched.
MacRumors reports:
The images show a tapered edge design similar to the leaked case designs, though it’s not exact. This “iPhone 5” doesn’t have the mute switch moved to the opposite side as seen on the case designs. It also retains the usual look of the home button rather than an elongated design.
The body of the device is only 7mm thick while the iPhone 4 comes in at 9.3mm. The device is indeed being called an “iPhone 5” in its sales material, which we tracked back to Chinese online store Taobao.
So far we’ve heard conflicting reports about next generation iPhone’s form factor. According to some reports, next generation iPhone will be completely redesigned and will look more like iPod Touch 4G rather than iPhone 4. While, some reports claim that fifth generation iPhone will come with improved specifications such as faster processor, 8-megapixel camera etc. just like iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, but won’t feature an all-new design and will look like iPhone 4. So it will be interesting to see if Apple’s iPhone 5 will look anything like the knockoffs.
It is speculated that Apple will launch iPhone 5 in October.
Will you buy Apple’s iPhone 5 if it looks like this?
