Skype has just released a new app called Skype WiFi for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The application provides iOS device users cheap Wi-Fi access at over one million locations around the world, including hotels, airports, train stations, convention centres, bars and restaurants.

Skype Wi-Fi app includes the following features:

  • Use Skype WiFi to connect to WiFi hotspots at hotels, airports, train stations, bars and restaurants – available at over 1 million hotspots worldwide.
  • Just one tap to connect – then browse the internet, check email, use Skype, check Facebook, update Twitter, upload photos, download music or ebooks.
  • Only pay for the time you’re connected – there are no limits on the amount of data you can upload or download.

Here’s how you use the app:

  • Go to the App Store and download the Skype WiFi app from the App Store using this iTunes link
  • Open the Skype WiFi app for iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad
  • Sign in with your Skype account details or visit Skype.com to create a new account
  • Tap Go Online and you’re online!
  • Once you’ve finished, just tap Disconnect

Here are some screenshot of the app:

Skype Wi-Fi is a perfect companion app while you are travelling abroad for holidays or on a business trip as it provides you affordable Wi-Fi access at US$ 0.06/4p/€0,05, instead of paying high international data roaming charges. The best part is that you are billed per minute using Skype credits, instead of buying an hour or day Wi-Fi voucher.

To encourage you to try the app, Skype is also offering free Wi-Fi access around the world from Saturday 20th August 00:00 till Sunday 21st August 23:59 BST for a maximum of 60 minutes (capped at 4 x 15-min sessions per unique Skype ID).

As always, let us know how it goes if you check it out.
