If you’re an AT&T customer, you probably received an email informing you that they’ve updated their privacy policy in the next few weeks.
As per the new privacy policy, AT&T will be selling anonymous information about its customers to other businesses, which Fierce Wireless reports may or may not include “customers’ wireless and Wi-Fi locations, U-verse usage, website browsing, mobile application usage and ‘other information.'”
AT&T also plans to use your location information to serve you more targeted online and mobile ads.
Here’s a look at what AT&T is collecting:
- Account Information includes your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, service related details such as payment data, passwords, security codes, service history, and other information like that;
- Network Performance & Usage Information tells us how you use our network, our products, and our services, and how well our equipment and network is performing;
- Web Browsing & Wireless Application Information tells us about the websites you visit and the mobile applications you use on our network;
- Location Information tells us where your wireless device is located, as well as your ZIP-code and street address;
- U-verse Information tells us about which programs you watch and record, the games you play, the applications you use and similar information about how you use our U-verse services and applications.
You will be automatically opted into the tracking, but thankfully opting out is quite easy. Click on this link and then click on the Check to Opt-out” boxes to exclude your anonymous information from AT&T’s External Marketing & Analytics and similar reports.
