Partnering with major car manufacturers in the world, Apple introduced a new feature called CarPlay that places iOS on your car’s built-in display allowing you to make calls, listen to music and much more while making it safer to drive. If you ever wished to get a hands-on experience of CarPlay on your iPhone, you’d probably be interested in a new jailbreak tweak known as CarPlay iOS, which we had reported about few days back.
As the name implies, the tweak allows you to experience the new CarPlay feature on your iPhone and get a taste of how it functions without connecting to an external display. Currently, the tweak is not complete as it provides access to the Music and the Now Playing app only. It is also very unstable currently.
After you install CarPlay iOS, you’re not required to make any configuration. To get started, simply open the CarPlay app from the Home screen to gain access to the tweak’s interface and functionality.
As mentioned earlier, the tweak currently provides access to the Music app and the Now Playing interface only. Opening the Music app lets you access all the songs, playlists and albums on your device. Howevr, if you try to switch to a different tab such as the albums or the songs list, the tweak will crash right away.
You’ll also find a virtual home button in the bottom left corner of the interface that lets you return to the tweak’s Home screen and access the other available apps. As you might have noticed from the screenshots above, the app is currently available in French and is quite unstable and crashes constantly. But this is just an early preview of the tweak, but it opens the door for future CarPlay tweaks.
I have been looking forward to check out the CarPlay interface ever since Apple introduced it, so it is pretty cool to be able to do it on my iPhone. If you’re like me and want to experience CarPlay on your iOS device without connecting to an external display, you can head to Cydia now and install CarPlay iOS for free on your iPhone.
