Pokémon GO is still a popular game for mobile devices, and it certainly has a strong following from kids that want to catch digital pocket monsters.

In an effort to help keep kids safe, Niantic, the developer behind the title, has announced on Wednesday a new log-in platform called Niantic Kids. This is powered by SuperAwesome, and it will bring a new parent portal into the mix. It allows parents to control what private information their child shares with Niantic, and lets them choose and manipulate the child’s permissions before they play the game.

“Parents can register with Niantic Kids to manage their child’s privacy via the parent portal. Niantic Kids helps you review and approve your child’s permissions before they can play and provides options to control the personal information shared in Pokémon GO. The experience has been developed in conjunction with SuperAwesome’s Kids Web Services, a kidSAFE Seal Program and ESRB Privacy Certified service. Niantic Kids gives you peace of mind that your child’s information remains secure while they have fun playing!”

What’s more, if a parent’s kid is already playing the game with a log-in via the Pokeémon Trainer Club, the new log-in system will support it as well thanks to Niantic Kids. It’s also one additional step to making sure that a child’s information remains confidential.

Unfortunately, while Niantic has unveiled the new feature, it doesn’t actually go into any specifics as to when Niantic Kids will be available to use. It should be soon, though.

Niantic probably should have had something like this right out of the gate, considering how popular Pokémon is across age ranges. But, better late than never, right?
