Since the introduction of the iPhone X, I have been opting for the 64GB storage option as the premium on the next bigger storage option has been out of my budget. But unfortunately these days 64GB storage space is not a lot, so I have to be mindful of how the storage space gets used on your iPhone. In this article, I will show you a little known WhatsApp trick to quickly free up iPhone storage space.
There are various ways to free up storage space like deleting unwanted photos and videos but it is very time-consuming. I am about to describe the easiest and fastest way to free up storage space on your iPhone. The tip is only relevant to WhatsApp users, so if you are one then you should continue reading the article.
Follow these steps to free up a massive amount of storage space on your iPhone.
Step 1: Check iPhone Storage Usage
First, find out if WhatsApp is taking up Storage space. iOS provides an easy way to find out how much storage space is being used by apps. Launch the Settings app and navigate to General > iPhone Storage.
If WhatsApp is one of the top apps taking up storage space, then proceed to the next step. If you are not automatically downloading the photos and videos then WhatsApp might not end up taking up as much storage space.
Step 2: Check Storage Usage on WhatsApp
Tap on Settings, and navigate to Storage Usage. Then tap on the person or Group that is consuming the most storage space.
Step 3: Select Message Types
Then tap on Manage. By default, all the options such as Photos, GIFs, Videos, Voice Messages, Documents, and Stickers gets selected. Tap on the options that are taking up the maximum amount of storage space. You can deselect text messages as they don’t end up taking storage space.
Step 4: Clear iPhone Storage Space
After you have deselected the options, tap on Clear. WhatsApp will prompt you if you want to delete the messages along the amount of storage space it will free up. Tap Clear to free up the storage space on your iPhone.
One of the issues I noticed was that even though iOS was reporting that the iPhone storage usage by WhatsApp was not high, the storage usage reported by WhatsApp was significantly more. Based on the information provided by WhatsApp, it should have been in the top 3 apps using storage space on my iPhone. I am not sure if iOS is reporting incorrectly, or the way WhatsApp calculates storage usage is different. I am quite confident that the storage space used by WhatsApp should be significantly more than what iOS is reporting. I will update the post if I found out the reason for the discrepancy.
I found this WhatsApp trick to be the easiest and fastest way to free up iPhone storage space. Let me know how it goes, and it would great if you can mention how much storage space this tip helped you free up in the comments below.
