Angry Birds was a massive success when it launched, and continued to remain popular over the years. The game’s developer, Rovio, eventually turned the franchise into something far bigger than just some animated birds you put in a slingshot, but sometimes going back to your roots isn’t a bad thing.
The company has now made Angry Birds Stella available in the App Store for free. In the game, as noted below, you’ll team up with the new “Fierce Flock,” which is a whole new gang of birds with their own personalities. The main character this time around, though, is Stella, and they’re all trying to save Golden Island from the Bad Princess:
“Join Stella and her super adventurous friends on a quest to protect Golden Island from the greedy Bad Princess and her clueless piggies! Meet this fierce new bunch, master their amazing superpowers, and play over 120 action-packed levels!
Stella has teamed up with Dahlia, Poppy, Willow and Luca – the newest flock on the block! These fearless pals have a strong bond but even stronger personalities. You could even say they’re best friends forever… most of the time.
But now these brave birds need to pull together and fight to save the island from Gale, the Bad Princess who’s stolen their scrapbook and is destroying their magical home.
It’s an all-new physics-based slingshot adventure – get ready to get fierce!“
The app itself is free, but much like other free apps out there, there are plenty of in-app purchases available if you really want to spend money on the game — or don’t want to watch ads. Angry Birds Stella has ads placed in between certain levels that you have to watch in order to move forward, and there are even time delays that are placed between the higher levels before you can access them. You can get rid of the ads, or move from one level to another faster if you’re willing to drop some money on the game, though. Buying in-game coins means you’ll spend anywhere between $1.99 and $19.99.
Angry Birds Stella also supports Telepod toys, which are physical character models that you can buy, show to the camera on your iOS-based device, and have that character unlocked in the game. You can pick up the Telepod toys through Amazon now, with one collection of characters costing upwards of $31.93.
