Apple Watch Series 4 promo image leaks out

Following Apple’s announcement of an impending iPhone event on September 12, where the company will unveil the iPhone XS lineup (and a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone), the Apple Watch Series 4 will get some time on stage as well.

9to5Mac was able to get its hands on a promotional image for the Apple Watch Series 4, which apparently leaked out after Apple’s announcement of its incoming event. Similar to the iPhone XS that leaked before, this is just an image and not a lot of information tagged along with it. Still, there’s quite a bit to unpack in just the image alone.

We can see that there is a lot more display in the Apple Watch Series 4 than what’s been available in previous releases. That would indeed line up with previous rumors regarding the upcoming smartwatch, suggesting the bezels have been reduced quite a bit, allowing for even more information on the bigger display.

This report echoes the past rumors, saying that the new Apple Watch Series 4 will have a 15 percent bigger display in both models. And, thanks to that bigger screen, we get a lot more information. In this case, the analog watch face is able to show a total of eight complications.

“In addition to taking the display edge-to-edge, we’re also looking at a brand new watch face capable of showing way more information than the current faces offered. The analog watch face shows a total of eight complications around the time and within the clock hands. While we haven’t seen a new digital face yet, it’s likely that Apple has designed more new watch faces to take advantage of the larger display.”

A few other things to note: The Digital Crown has been changed, at least in the cellular-enabled model. We can see that there is a red ring there, rather than the whole top of the button being red. A subtle change, but one that might be a welcomed for the folks who didn’t like the bold red button. There is also a small hole between the Digital Crown and the side button, which is probably an additional microphone.

Our Take

So, that’s a clear look at the Apple Watch Series 4. That display is certainly bigger. It’s good to see that Apple chose to reduce the bezels, just like it did with the iPhone X last year, to increase screen size, rather than making the case itself bigger.

What do you think of the new design?
