If you’re iPhone (or other iOS device) is having issues, and you want to book a Genius Bar appointment at your local store, Apple might ask you to take one little step first: Do a hard reset/reboot of your phone. And you know what, that’s a great idea.

Actually, it’s a really good idea. Why? Because a hard reset often fixes a lot of strange things going on with your phone. In fact here are a few tips for you that could save you a trip to the Genius Bar entirely:

- If an app is acting squirrelly, try force quitting it and restarting it.
- If that doesn’t fix it, delete it and reinstall it from the App Store
- Doing a “hard reset” often fixes connection issues with WiFi, cellular, Bluetooth, and sometimes lots of other strangeness.
