The cellular iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 both have a pretty cool feature that a lot of users are really aware of and that’s Apple SIM. In a nut shell, it’s a SIM card that will allow you to select your carrier from the Settings app so you’re not locked into a specific network. If you purchased your new cellular iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 from your local Apple retail store, then you have an Apple SIM. If you purchased it from a carrier, then you don’t and you’re locked into the carrier’s network from which your purchased it from.
The Apple SIM is going to give you the ability to switch carriers whenever you need to. Just tap on Settings and tap on “Cellular”. This will bring you a page that will allow you to select which carrier you want to choose. Keep in mind that if you select AT&T, then your device will be locked into the AT&T network. That is not the case if you select either Sprint or T-mobile.
- Once you select your carrier, you’ll need to select what type of plan you want.
- Then you’ll need to enter all your information and decide how much data you want for your new iPad.
- Of course, you’ll need to agree to the terms and conditions of the carrier before you finalize your purchase.
- Once you’ve done that, double check to make sure you’re buying what you intended to and select “Submit”.
If you get a popup that states that the cellular activation didn’t work, go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Once your network settings have been reset and your device reboots, you should be good to go.
