Microsoft has introduced Dark Mode in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other Microsoft mobile apps on iOS and Android. The company has begun rolling out Dark Mode to Outlook mobile apps on Android, iOS and also office.com. The Dark Mode reduces screen glare and will help protect your eyes while viewing your phone’s display in low light condition. Apple has already implemented system-wide Dark Mode on iOS 13.

The company is also working on adding Dark Mode to other services like OneDrive and Planner. Starting now, Outlook app will come with a switch that will allow you to toggle between Dark Mode and normal mode. Microsoft is said to have worked for the past year to add a dark mode for Outlook.

Talking about Dark Mode implementation, Jon Friedman, Microsoft head of Office design said: “Starting from the ground up and using the new gray palette for Fluent, our app teams began by aligning to the single palette.” He further added that “This included increasing contrast, brand color saturation, and consistency among details like how and when we use shadows when in Dark Mode.”

Microsoft also explains that Dark Mode might help save battery life on the device. Furthermore, Dark Mode will work in tandem with the system-wide Dark Mode on iOS 13. That apart, Outlook app is designed to automatically switch to Dark Mode once Battery Saver mode is activated. Dark Mode is expected to come to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the launch of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. The functionality will also extend to SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote, Planner and To-Do mobile apps.
