When we had reported that many users were facing the strange Wi-Fi connectivity issues after upgrading to iPhone OS 3.0, one of our readers, LegendarySwag informed us about another annoying issue after upgrading to iPhone OS 3.0.

The icons of some iPhone apps get replaced by icon of some other iPhone app or with a strange combination of multiple images.

Based on this Apple Discussions thread, it seems to be affecting some iPhone users.

LegendarySwag had provided the following details about the issue:

“There is also an annoying bug that causes my apps to change it's app icon which is pretty stupid. I've deleted all my downloaded apps due to that. My IM+ changed it's icon to Sims3. My need for speed changed to IM+… and the list continues. Although the apps still respond as regular it's a really ugly look. I tried deleting them and reinstalling, tried restarting my phone but it doesn't work. Really hope my beejive doesn't change.”

It looks like rebooting and syncing with iTunes solves the issue for some users.

But if that doesn’t help, you can follow these simple steps to fix the problem:

Step 1 – Go to the Applications section of iTunes on your iPhone/iPod touch and uncheck the affected application.

Step 2 – Sync your iPhone iPod touch.

Step 3 – Go back into the Applications section of iTunes on your iPhone/iPod touch and recheck the relevant application.

Step 4 – Sync your iPhone/iPod touch again.

Darrell Etherington who published this fix on TheAppleBlog (thanks to the tip from folks at Truphone) has confirmed that the fix resolves the problem.

Update:

shaggy9869, one of our readers has tipped us about another method that seems to work and has been confirmed by our long-time reader, Vishnu. Thanks guys, we appreciate it.

1. Go into App Store on Iphone and start download of an app that you
don't already have. Doesn't matter which one. Before the download is
complete "pause" it by tapping the icon for the new app.

2. Now power off your iphone and then power back on

3. Mixed up images for apps should now be fixed, you can unpause
download you had going, let it finish and keep it or delete it if you
don't want that app.
