Asphalt 8: Airborne, Gameloft’s latest title in the Asphalt series of games, has hit the App Store as a universal app for both the iPhone and iPad. The game features new locations, an expanded set of cars and an all-new physics engine that powers the game’s in-air action.

The game’s highlight, as its name suggests, is the “airborne” action with ramps, barrel rolls and “wild 360º jumps.” There are 8 seasons with 180 events, and 9 locations, including Venice, French Guiana, Iceland, the Nevada Desert. Gameloft added a whole bunch of new cars to the game bringing up the total cars to 47, with options like Lamborghini Veneno, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FXX and Pagani Zonda R to choose from.

Gameloft says that the graphics have also been improved thanks to next-generation shaders and real-time geometry reflection. The multiplayer mode has also improved with asynchronous challenges and the option to race up to 8 opponents in a game.

Asphalt 8: Airborne is available for $.99 on the App Store, and requires iOS 5.0 and up, and runs on iPhone 4 and up, iPad 2 and up, and iPod touch 4G and up.
