If you are one of the many people who use a Wi-Fi connection for your Apple TV, you most likely have had an issue with your Apple TV not being able to stream smoothly due to a poor Wi-Fi signal connection. If you want to make sure you Apple TV is getting the best signal possible you can do a quick signal strength check.

How to check Wi-Fi signal strength on Apple TV

Go to Settings -> General -> About.

About - Apple TV

This will take you to the information screen about your device, which includes the serial number, Wi-Fi network, resolution, and so on. The current Wi-Fi signal strength can be found at the very bottom under the Signal Strength heading. The signal is represented by small dots. The more dots present, the stronger the signal (maximum is 5).

Note: These steps will hold true for second, third, and fourth generation Apple TVs.

Wifi - Apple TV

Knowing the signal Wi-Fi signal strength is important for placing your Apple TV in your home. There are certain spot of my apartment that receive a lower Wi-Fi signal due to the thickness of the walls and the location of our router. At least that’s how it was explained to me by the cable technician. So by checking the signal strength you can see if there are more ideal spots to place the Apple TV.

If you have a Fourth Generation Apple TV, signal strength is even more important now that you can download games and apps from the App Store. Some of these items are large, and the weaker your Wi-Fi the longer the downloads will take.
