iPhone X has a new feature where notification previews on the Lock screen are hidden by default. Once you authenticate with Face ID, the notifications expand automatically. It’s a really neat feature. A thoughtful privacy upgrade. One of the little delights you expect from Apple. But for me, this hasn’t been working well.
I’d keep staring at the screen and Face ID wouldn’t unlock. Without changing the device position, I’d swipe up and boom, Face ID authenticates. But by then, I’ve lost the notifications on the Lock screen and I need to bring back the cover sheet. I don’t know what’s causing the issue. Maybe Apple is trying to conserve battery. Or it’s a bug that will be solved in a future update.
If you’re facing similar issues, or you just don’t want the notification previews to be hidden when your iPhone X is locked, follow the steps below.
How to Enable Notification Previews on iPhone X
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Select Notifications.
Step 3: Tap on Show Previews.
Step 4: Select Always.
Now, no matter if your device is locked or unlocked, you’ll always see notification previews.
What Do You Think of Face ID?
Most of the time, Face ID is truly magical. Especially when it comes to logging into websites and apps. But there are times when Face ID just refuses to work. I’m hoping that Face ID is using the data from the failed attempts and is getting better at the process.
