Earlier, we showed you a jailbreak tweak known as CarPlay iOS that brings Apple’s CarPlay feature to your iOS devices, but it wasn’t quite stable. Ignition is a similar tweak that just got released on Cydia by Adam Bell and is made primarily for iPad.
Apple introduced a new technology this year called CarPlay that places iOS on your car’s built-in display allowing you to make calls, listen to music, compose text messages and much more while making it safer to drive.
Ignition brings Apple’s CarPlay technology to your iOS devices and lets you enjoy all its features and functionality without having to connect to an external display. It provides access to Music, Messages, Maps, Phone and other apps as well as the now playing interface and Siri.
Upon installing the tweak, a new standalone app icon will appear on your Home screen dedicated to Ignition. Tapping on it restarts your device and then enables the CarPlay mode where you will have access to the tweak’s interface only.
It features a black background with large app icons that will look good on larger screens and makes it easier to navigate. As mentioned earlier, it features the following apps:
- Music
- Maps
- Messages
- Now Playing
- Overcast
- Phone
- Podcasts
- Rdio
- Spotify
It also includes an Ignition app icon that allows you to return back to the stock iOS Home screen. On the left side of the interface, you’ll view the current time, signal strength as well as a virtual Home button that allows you to return back to the tweak’s main interface.
The major advantage of Ignition is that is minimizes the user’s ability to type in texts. This means that it takes advantage of Siri to perform what you want to do. For instance, Siri will read your messages after opening the Messages app as well as allows you to write text messages by speaking to her the contact you want to send it to and the message.
With that said, one of the main reasons of Ignition is to connect your iPhone or iPad to an existing head-unit in your car via Bluetooth or mount it to your car’s dashboard and enjoy a seemingly safe driving by interacting with your device without touching it.
Currently, Ignition is made for iPad and does not support iPhone. It plays well on the iPhone 6 Plus, but on other models, the app icons will overlap on top of each other making the tweak unusable.
You can download and install Ignition from Cydia’s BigBoss repository for free of charge and let us know what you think about the tweak in the comments section below.
