The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus go on pre-order in the US, the UK, and other countries from September 15 and hit the retail stores a week later on September 22.

Q) What is the full specifications of the iPhone X?

Q) What kind of SIM card slot does the phone have? Does the iPhone 8 feature dual-SIM functionality?

A) The iPhone X features a nano SIM card slot and does not come with dual-SIM functionality.

Q) What’s so special about the Super Retina HD display of the iPhone X?

A) Apart from featuring a bezel-less design, the 5.8-inch OLED display on the iPhone X features a higher resolution and supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The  OLED display also has better contrast ratio, higher peak brightness, and saturation compared to the LCD panels used by Apple on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Q) iPhone 8 or the iPhone X?

A) The iPhone X is significantly better than the iPhone 8 in a few areas including the camera. The bezel-less OLED display of the iPhone 8 is the highlight of the handset and makes the iPhone 8 look very boring from the front. The OLED display on the iPhone X is not only bigger but it also has a higher resolution, features HDR and Dolby Vision support, and has better contrast ratio. The handset also comes with Face ID and Animoji — two features which are exclusive to the device.

Q) Is there Touch ID on the iPhone X? If yes, where?

A) Sadly, the iPhone X only comes with one form of biometric authentication: Face ID. iPhone X does not feature Touch ID.

Q) How does one wake and quickly unlock the iPhone X?

A) Thanks to lift-to-wake, you simply need to pick up your iPhone X and its display will wake up. To unlock iPhone X you need to look at your handset for Face ID to detect and unlock your iPhone. You can then finally go to the home screen by simply swiping up from the bottom.

Q) What colors is the iPhone X going to be available in?

A) iPhone X will be available in Silver and Space Gray colors.

Q) If my iPhone X ends up getting damaged by water, will it still be covered under warranty?

A) Despite the iPhone X featuring with an IP67 certification, it is not covered by Apple for warranty repairs for any kind of water damage.

Q) Does Apple use Gorilla Glass at the front and back of the iPhone X?

A) No, Apple does not make use of Gorilla Glass at the front and rear of the iPhone X. However, the glass used by the company has been reinforced further and the Cupertino company claims it is the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone.

Q) Does the iPhone X support Qi wireless charging?

A) Yes, the iPhone X supports Qi wireless charging.

Q) Can one use third-party Qi wireless chargers with the iPhone X?

A) Yes. Apple has implemented the open Qi wireless charging standard as is so you can wirelessly charge your iPhone X with any of the existing Qi wireless chargers. Apple has also worked with many accessory manufacturers on creating some Qi wireless chargers for the iPhone X.

Q) Where is the Home button on the iPhone X?

A) It is not there. Instead, the home button functionality has now been replaced by gestures. You can swipe up from the bottom to access the Home screen. To bring up the App Switcher, you will need to swipe up from the bottom of the display and hold the card of the app for a second. To bring up Control Center, you will have to swipe down from the right status bar, while for the lock screen/notification center, one needs to swipe down from the left status bar. You can swipe down in the middle of the Home screen for search.

Q) Are Portrait and Portrait Lighting mode available on the iPhone X?

A) Yes, the iPhone X supports both Portrait and Portrait Lighting feature. In the case of the iPhone X both the back and front facing cameras support Portrait mode and Portrait Lightning.

Q) What is this Portrait Lighting feature?

A) Building on the Portrait mode feature, the Portrait Lighting feature allows iPhone X owners to tweak the lighting effect of a portrait photo before or after taking it. They are not just filters as the feature analyses the scene and the lighting effect will vary depending on the ambient lighting conditions.

Q) Has Apple reintroduced the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone X?

A) No, iPhone X doesn’t have a headphone jack, and you should probably stop hoping for it.

Q) Has Apple improved the 12MP telephoto lens on the iPhone X compared to the iPhone 8 Plus?

A) Yes! The 12MP telephoto lens on the iPhone X features OIS and an f/2.4 aperture compared to the f/2.8 aperture and no OIS on the iPhone 8 Plus. This should particularly help in low-light scenarios.

A) Yes! Apple has finally gotten around to adding fast charging technology on the iPhone X. Like the iPhone 8, the iPhone X can be fast charged to 50% in just 30 minutes.

A) Apple is offering the iPhone X in 64GB and 256GB storage variants.

Q) Can you uninstall or disable pre-installed iOS apps on the new iPhones?

A) Yes, you can uninstall most of the pre-installed apps on iOS 11 on the new iPhones. Apple had first introduced this feature with iOS 10 in 2016. However, uninstalling a system app will not free up space on the internal storage of the handset.

Q) What contents do you get inside the retail box of the iPhone 8?

A) You get the phone, charger, a USB-A-to-Lightning cable, SIM ejector tool, EarPods with Lightning port, and some regulatory papers.

Q) Can I buy a SIM-free or unlocked iPhone X at launch?

According to Apple’s website, SIM-free or unlocked iPhone X won’t be available at launch. It is possible that the SIM free or unlocked iPhone X will be available when pre-orders open on October 27, but Apple usually delays the launch of the unlocked iPhone by a month in the U.S. Unlocked iPhone X would be available in other countries when pre-order opens.
