The jailbreak for Apple TV 4 was released yesterday for tvOS 10.0 – 10.1. Another update is also in the works to bring full support for tvOS 9.1.
In today’s guide, we will show you how to install the liberTV jailbreak onto Apple TV 4 and proceed with jailbreaking it. Before beginning, make sure to read the important points below:
- This jailbreak currently supports tvOS 10.0 – 10.1 and Apple TV 4. An update will be released soon to support tvOS 9.1.
- liberTV doesn’t support the latest firmware version which is tvOS 10.1.1.
- A computer is required to install the jailbreak app, such as Mac, Windows or Linux.
How to Use liberTV to Jailbreak Apple TV 4 on tvOS 10.0 – 10.1
Step 1: Use your computer to download Cydia Impactor from here and liberTV jailbreak file from here.
Step 2: Connect your Apple TV to your computer using a USB cable.
Step 3: Open Cydia Impactor and drag and drop the liberTV IPA file onto Cydia Impactor as shown below.
Step 4: Cydia Impactor will ask for your Apple ID and password, which is sent to Apple to generate a signing certificate. If you don’t want to provide it, you can create an alternative Apple ID and use that instead.
Step 5: Impactor will now begin installing the jailbreak app onto your Apple TV. Once done, disconnect your Apple TV from your computer and connect it to your TV.
Step 6: Open your Apple TV and you should see the liberTV jailbreak app on the Home screen. Proceed with opening it.
Step 7: Select the options for jailbreaking (as shown below) and then press the Do it! button.
Step 8: The jailbreak will begin now. After a few minutes, if it gets jailbroken successfully, a message will be displayed at the top saying ‘Success! Your TV has been liberated!’. If it fails and reboots, then retry the jailbreak. It takes a couple of tries before it can be jailbroken successfully.
That’s all you need to do to install the liberTV jailbreak app onto your Apple TV 4 and proceed with jailbreaking it. Keep in mind that nitoTV has issues with tvOS 10.0 – 10.1. An update is in the works to support this firmware, but until then, avoid installing it.
