iPhone Lego NXT Robot

We have seen a host of iPhone applications and with the launch of  AppStore tomorrow we will definitely see many more.

But this application using the iPhone to control a Lego Mindstorms Rover by folks at BattleBricks is definitely in the very cool category.

They have used the popular Lego Mindstorms NXT kit to develop an application called iPhone Lego NXT Robot. You might not try this out but you might
want to just checkout the YouTube video (after the jump) as it is really cool.

BattleBricks is a low-cost alternative to BattleBots, a robotic combat sport. They hope to offer the Lego community a new way to play, along with new ideas for building and programming Lego robots.

Thats what they are hoping to do with their iPhone application called iPhone Lego NXT Robot which uses the popular Lego Mindstorms NXT kit to create an iPhone-controlled rover.

Two iPhones are required, one on the vehicle that displays certain colors based on commands issued from the 2nd iPhone controller. This is done via a Safari app written with Google’s Web Toolkit. They have used Mindstorms-included light sensor to read the color of the vehicle mounted iPhone’s screen which translates the wavelength into movement using predetermined values as set in some LeJOS NXJ code. The vehicle then executes a command based on the color it "sees".

All this will need a jailbroken iPhone so if all that sounds beyond you then just watch the YouTube video below and share it with your friends (like I am doing) and tell us what you think about this cool iPhone application:
