Multitouch Gestures

Apple introduced four and five finger multitouch gestures for iPad in iOS 4.3 beta 1 to developers of iOS developer program but had clarified that they won’t be enabled for users.

Apple provided a preview of the multi-touch gestures to developers in iOS 4.3 beta to gather input on how these gestures work with their apps.

This is how the four and five finger multitouch gestures work:

  • Pinch to Home screen
  • Swipe up to reveal multitasking bar
  • Swipe left or right between apps

Though we’ve seen several hacks that allow users to enable the multitouch gestures, a new jailbreak app has been released called MT Gestures, which makes it a lot easier for users who have jailbroken their iOS device to enable the four and five finger multitouch gestures, which seems to be quite popular with users.

MT Gestures currently works only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad 1. Please note that MT Gestures by cookie181992 is also supposed to support iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G but it didn’t work for us, while MT Gestures and MT Gestures (WB) by Thieu.Bocap worked without any issue.

You can follow these steps to enable the multitouch gestures:

  • Launch Cydia from home screen
  • Tap on the Manage tab
  • Then tap on Sources
  • Tap edit and then Add iphone.gsm.vn/
  • After the new source is installed, tap on the Search tab and search for MT Gestures.
  • You may get few results for MT Gestures, tap and select MT Gestures (WB)
  • Tap on the Install button in the top right corner
  • Then tap Confirm to install MT Gestures WB on your jailbroken iOS device
  • Launch Winterboard from the homescreen
  • Tap Select Themes
  • Select the appropriate option from iPhone 3GS4.3.1 Gestures, iPhone 4 4.3.1 Gestures and iPad 4.3.1 Gestures

You should now be able to use multitouch gestures as seen in the video below:

You can disable it via the Settings app (General –> Multitouch gestures)

Update:

MT Gestures is compatible with only iOS 4.3.1.

As always, let us know how it goes in the comments.
