Last month, a report claimed that Apple may finally redesign iPhone’s iconic Home screen by allowing users to view all their installed applications in a list view. A new iOS 14 leak provides more insight into the redesigned Home screen.
Home Screen Widgets
9to5Mac claims that they have discovered code in iOS 14 which suggests that Apple is working to implement widgets right on the Home screen, which can be moved freely just like we can do with app icons currently. The feature is internally codenamed “Avacado”. The report also claims that Apple is still implementing the feature so there are chances it could be scrapped.
We have already seen a few concepts of what the redesigned Home screen would look like based on the previous leak. The display of icons in a list view didn’t make sense to me, but it would make more sense if one could also add widgets to the Home screen, a feature that has been on my wish list.
New Wallpaper Settings
In addition to the Home screen widgets leak, Twitter user DongleBookPro has also leaked screenshots of the new Wallpaper settings in iOS 14. The leaked iOS 14 screenshot reveals a new “Home Screen Appearance” option.
The leaked screenshot also reveals a new Collections menu that users can populate their own photos. Last month, a report had claimed that Apple will offer improved categorization of wallpapers by adding new categories. More importantly, Apple will allow third-party apps to directly integrate with the Wallpaper option in the Settings menu in iOS 14. This means third-party wallpaper apps will be able to integrate and show their wallpaper collections right in the iOS 14 Wallpaper settings menu. Based on the leaked iOS 14 screenshot, it also looks like you will be able to swipe left or right to select the Wallpaper instead of selecting wallpapers from a grid. You will also be able to enable “Dark Appearance Dims Wallpaper” toggle to dim the wallpaper depending on ambient light.
