I had written an article on the options users had to use Twitter, the popular social networking and micro blogging service on their iPhone.
At that time I had mentioned that "having a choice is always good and in case you are addicted to the fast-paced social network then you will happy to know that there is not one but 5 ways to use Twitter on Apple’s iPhone."
If you were not happy with any of those 5 options then you can checkout the 6th option in the form of a native iPhone application called MobileTwitter which was released recently.
MobileTwitter has been developed by Nicholas Pike, the first native iPhone application for Twitter. It works on the iPhone as well as iPod Touch.
The features of the native iPhone application are mentioned below:
- Your timeline (you + those you follow)
- Direct messages
- Replies
- Public timeline
- Updating your Twitter status
- Reply directly to tweets from MobileTwitter
- Open Tweets in MobileSafari (handy for clicking on links..)
- Direct message authors of tweets
- TwitPic.com integration.
Nicholas is also looking to add the following features in the future:
- Manual refresh.
- Offline storage of recent tweets.
- Ability to Mark/Star your Favorite Tweets.
- Landscape mode for Update view.
Along with these features Nicholas also plans to provide better Chinese character support and fix the bug for tweets that don’t fit in future versions of MobileTwitter.
In order to install MobileTwitter on your iPhone, you will need a Jailbroken iPhone with the cool Installer App installed. As you can see from the screenshot above, MobileTwitter seems like a better option than the 5 Twitter options I had covered earlier or at least until folks at Twitterrific develop an official native application for the iPhone using the iPhone SDK.
