United Airlines adds new in-flight movie and TV service in iOS app update

united airlinesUnited Airlines updated its iOS app with support for a new in-flight entertainment service that’ll help travelers pass time on their flights. The service is available for iPad and iPhone owners and offers up to 150 movies and 200 TV shows.

The updated version of the Unite app is available now in the iOS App Store, and the service will be gradually rolled out to United Airlines’ fleet of planes. Currently, it is only available on select flights that have the necessary hardware and requires customers to connect to the in-flight WiFi service offered by United. The full change-log for version 2.0.13 of the app includes the following:

  • Entertainment, personalized
  • United’s new personal device entertainment service will be available on select aircraft.
  • United app version 2.0.13 adds the required software to browse and watch select movies and TV shows on your mobile device when connected to the “United_Wi-Fi” network.
  • To see if your flight offers personal device entertainment, go to the Inflight Amenities tab on the united.com Flight Status & Information page, or check the Amenities section of the Flight Status Details screen in the United app within 24 hours of your flight departure. (Amenities are subject to change until the time of departure.)

Travelers can check to see if their flight is supported on the flight information page for their flight or in the United app. Though mobile support is limited to the iPad and iPhone, the new entertainment options are available for notebook users via a browser plugin.
