With the iPhone X pre-orders scheduled to start from later this week, most people are looking at their options on how they can easily and cheaply upgrade to the handset. If you had signed up for Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program last year and are eligible for an upgrade this year, well then the whole process of upgrading to an iPhone X just became simpler for you.

The iPhone Upgrade Program from Apple allows one to buy an iPhone and then pay it off in interest-free monthly instalments over a period of 24 months. If this will be your first time using the iPhone Upgrade Program to upgrade to the iPhone X, here’s how the whole thing works.

How To Upgrade to iPhone X using iPhone Upgrade Program

If you are already enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program, the first thing you need to ensure is that you are eligible for an upgrade. If you have paid off 12 monthly instalments of your existing iPhone, you have the option of upgrading to the iPhone X. If that is not the case, you do have another option. If you have paid 6 monthly instalments, you pay the additional amount (i.e. the remaining 6 monthly instalments at once) to be eligible for the upgrade.

Apple is already giving iPhone Upgrade Program members a head start by approving their iPhone X upgrades. For this, you need to open the Apple Store app and select the iPhone X variant you want to purchase. Apple will then automatically pre-approve their loans before pre-orders for the iPhone X go live on October 27. If you receive the necessary pre-approval, you will be able to easily pre-order the iPhone X on Friday. You can then use a trade-in kit from Apple to send in your existing device to the company before you receive your new iPhone X.

The important point to note here is that Apple is not giving iPhone Upgrade Program customers any preference over regular customers when it comes to pre-ordering the iPhone X. Even after getting the necessary pre-approval, iPhone Upgrade Program customers will have to pre-order the iPhone X at the same time as other regular customers: 12:01 am PDT on October 27. This means that if you get your pre-order in late, you might have to wait for a couple of months to get your hands on the iPhone X.

If you do make use of the iPhone Upgrade Program to upgrade to an iPhone X, you will be paying $49.91 or $56.16 per month for the 64GB and 256GB variant of the device, respectively.

Do share your experience of using the iPhone Upgrade Program to upgrade to an iPhone X. Last year, many customers faced issues while upgrading to the iPhone 7 since Apple required them to physically visit their nearest Apple Store. This created a lot of hassle for customers which is why the company has introduced trade-in mail kits this year.
