If you find that your Mac or MacBook’s speaker volume isn’t high enough, Boom is a great tool to amplify the sound coming from your speakers.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Once the download completes, click on boom2.dmg to mount the file.
  • You’ll see a window like this that pops up. Drag the Boom app icon to the Applications folder.

  • Now open Boom 2 from your Applications folder. If you get a warning saying Boom 2 is an application downloaded from the Internet, click on Open.
  • Agree to the license agreement.

  • You’ll see the equaliser below, but you can go ahead and close that because the actual amplification happens from Boom’s menu bar icon.

  • Click on Boom’s menu bar icon, and you’ll see a simple volume slider.

  • Slide it all the way to the top to boost your volume much higher than the usual maximum level.

Boom has a really nice interface, and some other cool features like modifying audio files to amplify its sound levels, and setting a global equaliser for all audio playing on your speakers.
