Apple announced watchOS 8 at WWDC 2021. The upcoming version of watchOS packs more health-focused features and improved health tracking to deliver an even better experience. If you are wondering if watchOS 8 will support your Apple Watch or not, read below.
Apple tends to drop support for some older devices with every major new OS release. The company dropped support for Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 2 with watchOS 7 last year.
Apple was expected to drop support for Apple Watch Series 3 this year, especially since the GPS-only variant of the watch does not even have enough free space to install new OS updates. However, that’s not the case as Apple will be supporting Apple Watch Series 3 and newer with watchOS 8.
Apple Watch Compatible With watchOS 8
watchOS 8 will be compatible with the following Apple Watch models:
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch SE
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 3
The Apple Watch Series 3 definitely feels slow to use now, but it is impressive that Apple plans to roll out software updates to it for another year.
watchOS 8 Release Date
Apple will release a public beta of watchOS 8 next month. A public release of the OS is still a few months away. Major new watchOS releases are released alongside major iOS updates. So, with iOS 15 expected to release in September, don’t expect watchOS 8 to be released to the public before that.
