Microsoft is finally improving the Outlook app for Mac. The update will be available for Mac beta testers and is expected to come with a redesign alongside performance improvements. Microsoft is implementing the Sync technology used in Android devices to Mac. In other words, Outlook will now sync faster with Google and other services on Mac.

Microsoft is also ushering in a design overhaul for the Outlook app. The company is apparently borrowing a bunch of features that it has already implemented on the mobile versions of Outlook. Here is what you get- new mail composes UI, single line arrangement for writing and reading emails and other features like the ability to ignore emails. With the update, Outlook will also allow you to customize the main menu.

Another big addition is the “My Day” view which seems to borrow from Microsoft To-Do. This menu is dedicated to all your appointments and meetings for the day. Furthermore, the Search bar is now moved to the top and Microsoft search is integrated into the results. This will allow you to set advanced filters while searching and also search faster. Other features in the pipeline include Meeting Insights, Up Next, and inferred locations.

Most of us are familiar with the Ribbon on Outlook. The feature allowed users to access an array of a toolbar via a collapsible menu. Microsoft has removed the ribbon in Outlook for Mac and is not planning to reintroduce it any time soon. Lastly, a new Play My Emails feature has been added to iOS.

The bottom line is this, Microsoft is trying to tidy up Outlook in a bid to attract power users. Outlook for Mac had been lacking in many aspects and hopefully, with the update, it will come closer to the Windows version.
