Apple has updated its HomeKit accessories page with a list of routers and security cameras that will work with the brand’s HomeKit ecosystem of smart home devices.
The Cupertino-based tech giant announced two new categories, HomeKit routers and HomeKit Secure Video, alongside iOS 13.2. However, Apple had not revealed a list of supported devices back then.
Starting with HomeKit enabled routers, Apple has listed three routers that will support the HomeKit ecosystem – two from eero and one from Linksys. The two routers from eero include eero and eero Pro. And the one from Linksys is the Velop Mesh Wi-Fi system, which is a well-known mesh Wi-Fi router around the globe.
Moving on to HomeKit Secure Video Cameras, Apple has listed support for four new devices – Netatmo Smart Indoor Camera, Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera, eufyCam 2 series, and eufyCam 2C series. Apple has also listed two doorbells that support HomeKit Secure Video: the Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell and Robin ProLine Doorbell.
The HomeKit-enabled routers can be controlled from your Apple device, allowing for much easier controls, in addition to offering Wi-Fi connectivity. Moreover, the HomeKit enabled routers are said to have tighter security compared to the other Wi-Fi routers. Routers certified by HomeKit can create a firewall around each smart home accessory to isolate them from each other and reduce the risk of a security breach.
Just like HomeKit-enabled routers, HomeKit enabled cameras can be controlled from your Apple devices. However, the best thing about the HomeKit enabled cameras is that the videos recorded from these cameras are directly uploaded to the iCloud; the videos never reach the camera manufacturer. Thereby, enhancing user privacy.
