Steve Jobs confirmed at Apple’s special event held earlier in the week that iOS 4.1, which will be released next week will fix the performance issues observed by iPhone 3G users after upgrading to iOS 4.
The iOS 4 performance was so bad that some iPhone 3G users were forced to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3.
Folks at LifeHacker have tested iOS 4.1 Golden Master on iPhone 3G to see if it fixes the performance issues.

As you can see from the video iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1 appears to be a lot more responsive than iOS 4.
It needs to be seen if iPhone 3G users find the improvements big enough to continue using iOS 4.1.
