A new report from The Information claims that Apple is looking to launch an AR headset in 2022 followed by a sleeker pair of AR glasses by 2023. This is contrary to other reports which have claimed that Apple will launch its AR headset next year.

As per the report, Apple executives discussed the launch timeframe of the AR headset and glasses at an internal meeting in October. The meeting was led by Mike Rockwell who leads Apple’s AR and VR efforts and it had over 1,000 attendees. The AR headset is said to feature 3D scanning, human detection, and more.

The launch timeframe claimed in the report is completely different from what reputed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed. As per the analyst, Apple’s AR glasses could enter into mass production by the end of this year and launch next year.

Plenty of references to Apple’s AR glasses have also been found in internal iOS 13 builds. Thus, this makes it a bit difficult to believe that Apple intends to launch its AR headset in 2022. The code in iOS 13 makes it clear that Apple is rapidly working on the development of its AR glasses and intends to launch it within a year or so.

It is possible that the 2022 timeframe is for the launch of an updated pair of Apple AR glasses with a new design and more features. The first iteration of the AR headset is expected to rely heavily on the iPhone for processing and connectivity. Another report has also claimed that Apple is partnering with Valve for its AR glasses.
