Apple Maps has reorganized categories and brings food delivery and medical services to the forefront. The changes are aimed at helping users during the COVID-19 outbreak and are similar to the one introduced by Google Maps.
Apple has reordered the Apple Maps categories such that Grocery stores figure out on the top followed by Food Delivery, a newly introduced category. Meanwhile, other categories that are less important during the outbreak are pushed down. Earlier, the Apple Maps categories included Restaurants, Fast Food, Gas Stations, and Cafes. Now the Apple Maps categories are arranged as follows, Groceries, Food Delivery, Medical Shops, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps, Restaurants, Pizza, and Bank&ATMs.
The Food Delivery category will help you by showing all the nearby restaurants that are offering delivery options. Compared to Google Maps update, the Apple Map update feels seems inadequate. For instance, Google Maps beams a COVID-19 warning when users are searching for medical locations and also asks users to contact a doctor if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Google Maps and Google Business page put on a warning when it comes to businesses that are closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Like most of the tech companies, Apple is doing its bit to support people during the pandemic outbreak.
The company has introduced a COVID-19 screening tool along with the CDC. The screening tool includes a self-assessment test designed to ascertain risk factors. Apple CEO Tim Cook shared a video message on Twitter and announced that the company has sourced 20 million masks through its supply chain that would be donated to healthcare professionals across the world.
Apple has also ensured that their employees stay safe. In April an internal memo from Apple announced that retail stores will be closed in the U.S. until early May. The company also announced that it will be matching employee donations to support COVID-19 response internationally. Lastly, Apple also pledged that it will continue to pay its hourly workers.
