As we close out one week and kick off another, let’s take a moment to look back at the attention-grabbing headlines from the past seven days. Some of the news you may recall, some may be new to you, but all the topics below are worthy of a second mention.

Liveblog: WWDC 2014 Keynote

This is it folks! Apple’s highly anticipated WWDC 2014 Keynote should be underway shortly (10:00 AM Pacific Time or 1:00 PM Eastern Time). Apple is widely expected to unveil iOS 8, OS X 10.10, a smart home platform, and probably some new hardware.

iOS 8 was just announced today, but as we’ve reported, developers are already getting their hands on it. As you might expect, screenshots showcasing all of the new operating system’s new features are already floating around the internet. iOS 8 Jailbreak: Status Update

It has been just over two days since Apple seeded iOS 8 beta to developers, so I’m quite sure many of you’re wondering if iOS 8 can be jailbroken. Security researcher and hacker Stefan Essar aka i0n1c who has successfully jailbroken iOS 7.1.1 brings some good news. He has tweeted that Apple hasn’t patched any of the exploits used to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1.

However, most of us will have to wait until September to install iOS 8 on our devices, and if you don’t want to lose your jailbreak then probably wait until the iOS 8 jailbreak is released.

iOS 8 can scan credit card details using iPhone’s camera

In iOS 8, Safari includes a new feature that will allow users to scan a credit card with their iPhone or iPad’s camera, so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of entering it manually.

According to 9to5Mac, developers don’t have to do anything to enable the feature, the option to scan credit card shows up automatically on the keyboard when credit card number is requested as you can see in the screenshot below.

Recode: Apple to launch first wearable device in October

Apple laid out the foundation for a future health and fitness wearable product at WWDC with iOS 8′s HealthKit. Earlier today, a rumor claimed that the company is gearing up for an October launch for the iWatch smartwatch, and a report from Re/code confirms these rumors, citing their own sources.

Apple buys social location search engine Spotsetter

Apple has acquired Spotsetter, a social search engine to recommend you places to visit based on social cues from your friends and family. Spotsetter shut down the service following the acquisition, and some of its employees will join Apple and work on improving its mapping service.
