The GoPro brand has become the go-to option for many customers that want an “action camera,” and now Garmin is hoping it can liven up the competition a bit.

On Monday, April 13, Garmin officially unveiled a duo of brand new action cameras that will fall in line as competition to GoPro’s own offerings. Garmin’s Virb X and Virb XE are both waterproof up to 50 meters, and are outfitted with GPS for location awareness, as well as a gyroscope and accelerometer for good measure.

The Virb XE also features the ability to record video at 1440p resolution at 30 frames per second, or at 1080p resolution at 60fps. It also offers optical image stabilization, selectable zoom, and what Garmin calls “super slow-mo.” The Virb X, on the other hand, records 1080p video at 30fps, or 720p video at 60 frames per second. It does not offer the super slow-mo option, either. Each model also comes equipped with Bluetooth, ANT+ and built-in Wi-Fi.

Garmin’s new cameras can connect to Garmin’s own iOS app, which can then be used to transfer footage via Wi-Fi. Video is recorded to a microSD card.

The Virb X will retail for $299.99, while the Virb XE will set a customer back $399.99 when they both go on sale in the summer of this year.
