It looks like the hacks using Siri Proxy has caught the fancy of many developers, who are creating custom plugins so that they can give voice commands to control their car or thermostat or play movies and TV shows with Plex or use Google Voice or control Mac apps using Siri.
Developer – Simon Maddox has created a new custom plugin which allows you to manage Spotify – the popular music steaming service that was recently launched in the U.S.
The custom Siri Proxy plugin for Spotify can accept requests such as “Spotify, play me some Nirvana,” “pause,” “play the next song,” “play the previous song” and “what song is this?” etc.
You can checkout the video of the custom Siri Proxy plugin in action below:
Please note that these Siri hacks don’t require users to jailbreak their iPhone 4S, but the process of installing the Siri Proxy is quite complicated as you need to create a DNS server on your own network as well as generate and install a few certificates.
If you want to get this working then checkout the instructions to install Siri Proxy here and you can find the documentation and source code for the Spotify custom plugin that Maddox has released as open-source here.
As always, let us know how it goes in the comments.
