Apart from the first developer beta of iOS 13, Apple also released the first developer beta of watchOS 6. The latest version of watchOS comes with several new watch faces, a standalone App Store, and more. If you are interested in trying out watchOS 6, you don’t need to wait for its public release until September. You can install the watchOS 6 developer beta on your Apple Watch right away by following the steps in this guide.

Installing the developer beta of watchOS 6 on your Apple Watch is a relatively simple process. However, you must ensure that your iPhone is also running iOS 13 developer beta. You cannot install watchOS 6 developer beta on your Apple Watch with your iPhone running iOS 12.

You cannot downgrade your Apple Watch to watchOS 5.3. For that, you will have to take it to an Apple Store/Authorized Service Store so keep that in mind before proceeding with the steps below.

Apple Watch Compatible with watchOS 6

watchOS 6 is compatible with the following Apple Watch series

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 3

  • Apple Watch Series 1

It drops support for Series 0 Apple Watch a.k.a the original Apple Watch released back in 2015.

Install watchOS 6 Developer Beta on Apple Watch

Step 1: Download this file on your iPhone running iOS 13 developer beta and paired with the Apple Watch.

Step 2: After the download is complete, you will automatically get a popup asking you to select the device on which you want to install the beta profile. Select Apple Watch from the list.

Step 3: The Watch app should open up on your iPhone. Tap Install and then proceed to enter the passcode of your iPhone to continue the installation process. After pressing Install for a few more times, your Apple Watch should restart itself.

Step 4: After your Apple Watch has booted back, open the Watch app again on your iPhone and look for updates. The watchOS 6 developer beta should show up as a download. If not, try again in a few minutes.

Make sure that your iPhone continues to run on iOS 13 developer beta as iOS 12 is incompatible with watchOS 6.
