In iOS 9, Apple introduced a useful feature which gave users the ability to save web pages, notes, photos and more as a PDF.
The ability to save different things as a PDF has long been a feature in OS X — and it’s an incredibly useful one. Rather than printing important documents or web pages that you know you’ll need access to later, you can simply save them locally.
However, the feature seemed to have one limitation. You could only save the web page as PDF to iBooks. However, there is a hidden feature in iOS 9, first reported by Federico Viticci of MacStories, which allows you to quickly share PDF files natively generated to other apps such as Dropbox, Mail app etc. without having to save the PDF to iBooks.
Please note that since this trick needs the peep and pop feature of 3D Touch, it will work onl
How to export PDF files on iPhone 6s using 3D Touch without saving to iBooks
- Launch Safari, and go to the webpage you want to save as a PDF.
- Then tap the share icon at the bottom of the screen, then tap the Print option.
- Next, you will get the print preview.
- You can swipe on the pages to scroll through them. You probably didn’t know that if you tap hard on a page to make it “pop,” you can get a Quick Look preview.
- Here if you tap on the share icon at the top right corner of the screen, you get the option to export as a PDF to whatever app you want, like the Mail app, Dropbox, other apps or Action extensions.
This is a lot easier and convenient than saving the PDF to iBooks first. This trick works with notes, photos etc. as well. 3D Touch brings some nifty tricks to iOS, but I keep forgetting to use it on my iPhone 6s Plus. What about you?
Let me know how it goes.
