Earlier in the year, IKEA had announced that it would be bringing HomeKit integration to its Tradfri range of lighting systems by fall 2017. Now, the company has started rolling out a software update to its Wireless hub that enables HomeKit integration on its products.
The retailer has updated the listing of its products on its website to reflect the change. While not mentioned on the website, the update will also allow for integration with Philips Hue bridge. This means that you will be able to see your smart Ikea bulbs in Philips Hue app as well.
In addition to HomeKit support, the update also makes the smart bulbs and hub compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. This means that you can control the Ikea smart bulbs installed in your premises from your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android device, any smart speaker running Amazon Alexa, or Google Home. With support for all major assistants out there, Ikea’s Tradfri lighting system is now among the cheapest smart lighting system in the market.
9to5Mac also reports that Ikea is looking to offer multi-color smart bulbs from October. Right now, the company’s Tradfri series of smart bulbs consist of LEDs that are only white in color.
