The iPhone 11 Pro series features a faster 1.6Gbps Gigabit LTE modem. While the iPhone XS also shipped with a Gigabit LTE modem, the one inside the iPhone 11 Pro is seemingly up to 13% faster than it.
Data collated by SpeedSmart shows that the iPhone 11 Pro series offers faster download speeds on all major U.S. carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon by around 13%. While the maximum download speeds topped out at 41.8Mbps on T-Mobile’s network on the iPhone XS, the iPhone 11 Pro series was able to pull notably higher 48.72Mbps download speeds. A similar improvement is seen across Sprint, Verizon and AT&T’s network as well.
While the upload speeds have also improved on the iPhone 11 Pro series, the improvements are not as big as the download speeds. Nonetheless, most users upgrading to the iPhone 11 Pro will definitely appreciate the faster download speeds over LTE.
Apple has long lagged behind flagship Android devices in terms of network speed and performance. However, this time around, the company seems to have focused on this front and ensured that its iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro series come with Gigabit+ LTE modem. While the iPhone 11 also comes with a Gigabit modem, it can seemingly only reach a peak theoretical speeds of up to 1.2Gbps. This is still more than good enough and a massive step up from the iPhone XR which was only capable of reaching a maximum downlink speed of 750Mbps.
At the moment it is unclear if the new iPhones are using a Qualcomm modem or if Apple is still using Intel modem inside them. Given the improvement in networking performance, I am inclined to believe Apple has gone with Qualcomm’s modem for its entire iPhone 11 series.
