You can already upload video files to Twitter, but if you want to share a special moment in real-time, then a new iOS app called Meerkat can help. The free download broadcasts live video to your Twitter followers, so they can share your experiences as they happen.

Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Meerkat is a simple app that’s easy to setup and use. Simply log into your Twitter account, and you can begin broadcasting video live at the touch of a button — or schedule a stream for later.

Your followers will then see a link that will allow them to tune into the stream via Meerkat’s web-based interface, and you’ll be able to see exactly who’s watching inside the Meerkat app. If your friends are also using Meerkat, they’ll get a push notification when you go live.

You’ll also be able to keep up with the live chat feature, which takes place on Twitter, through the Meerkat app. You can then save your live streams to the camera roll on your iOS device for editing or sharing later, but nothing is ever uploaded to Meerkat’s servers.

To get started with Meerkat, follow the download link below. Once again, it’s completely free to use, and there are no in-app purchases.
