Microsoft today made a few different announcements, many of which focused on Windows 10, but the company also unveiled a brand new product.
That new product is an all-in-one desktop machine called Surface Studio. It’s a brand new desktop PC, which offers the world’s thinnest display measuring at 12.5mm thin. It’s a 28-inch touchscreen display, which shows 13.5 million pixels. To compare, that’s 63 percent more than a 4K television. It has a 3:2 aspect ratio, supports what Microsoft calls True Color for more accurate colors. It’s supported by two chrome arms, which rest on a hinge so the machine’s display can be adjusted on a whim, and down to a near-flat orientation to represent the studio feeling.
Connections include a Mini DisplayPort, audio, SD Card, 4 USB 3.0 ports, and an Ethernet port. There’s a NVIDIA GTX 980M GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor under the hood. There’s a 1TB SSD as well.
The Surface Studio also supports accessories, including the Surface Pen, which has become a tentpole accessory for the company. And then there’s a new radial accessory, called Dial, which supports a variety of different input options, and can be set upon the Surface Studio’s display directly to offer even more contextual-based options. That includes choosing colors for a brush, and flipping through pages. The touchscreen supports palm rejection as well.
The Surface Studio supports 2.1 surround sound with Dolby support, a built-in HD camera, and a built-in microphone array to help activate Cortana.

Microsoft did say there will be limited numbers this holiday season, as it opens pre-orders beginning today, October 26. It’s priced at $2,999.
