Microsoft today unveiled two new Surface devices: the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book. The former is the successor to the Surface Pro 3, while the latter is the Redmond based company’s first 2-in-1 laptop.
Microsoft has improved the Surface Pro 4 in every possible way. It has managed to extend the display size to 12.3-inches on the tablet, while still retaining the same footprint. The display now boasts of more than 5 million pixels with 267ppi. Under the hood, the Pro 4 is powered by a sixth generation Core i7 processor, and will be available with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB space. Despite packing in some impressive internals and a new hybrid cooling system, the Pro 4 is only 8.4 mm thick.

Other notable features of the Surface include a fingerprint scanner, an 8MP rear facing camera, and a new Surface Pen that supports up to 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and comes with up to one year of battery life. The Pen can stick to the edge of the Surface so you don’t need to worry about losing it.
Microsoft has also updated the popular Type Cover keyboard for the Surface Pro 4 with a 40 percent larger trackpad that now supports up to 5-point multitouch. Both Surface Pro 4 and the Type Cover keyboard are available for pre-order on Microsoft’s store starting from today, with prices for the former starting from $899. The devices will hit the retail stores on October 26.
The second Surface product unveiled by Microsoft today was the Surface Book. The 2-in-1 laptop features a 13.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio with PixelSense support. Under the hood, the device is powered by a sixth generation Intel Core processor, a discrete Nvidia GPU, GDDR5 RAM, and offers up to 12-hours of battery life. Despite being only 7.7mm thick, the Surface Book has full sized USB ports and an SD card reader.

Microsoft boasts that the Surface Book is the “fastest 13-inch laptop ever made,” and is twice as fast as the 12-inch MacBook. Pre-orders for the Surface Book start from October 7, and the device will hit the retail stores on October 26. Its prices start from $1499.
Both Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 runs on Windows 10, which means they come with all the latest goodies offered by the OS including Cortana integration. Since these devices run a full blown OS and pack in more power than the iPad Pro and the 12-inch MacBook, they arguably make better sense for most people out there.
