Apple today at its WWDC 2021 keynote announced watchOS 8. The latest watchOS 8 from Apple focuses on improving your mental health by introducing new features in Breath and Sleep apps.

Mindfulness

The new features in watchOS 8 include a focus on your mental health. The new Mindfulness app replaces the Breathe app o Apple Watch and helps you keep calm, especially in these difficult times. Apple has added a ‘Reflect’ session that improves the focus of the Apple Watch user.

Each Reflect session welcomes the user with a unique, thoughtful notion to consider that invites a positive frame of mind. For example, the user may see something like “Recall a time recently when you felt a sense of calm. Bring that feeling into this moment,” or “Reflect on one thing you’re grateful for and think about why you appreciate it so much.”

New Workouts on Apple Fitness+

Apple is adding new workouts in Apple Fitness+ with training sessions from popular trainers like Jeanette Jenkins. Apple has added several workouts that are ‘beneficial for both physical fitness and mindful movement’ like Tai Chi and Pilates. The new workout also supports motion algorithms that allows the Apple Watch to track accurate metrics.

Sleeping Respiratory Rate

Apple Watches running watchOS 8 will be able to track the respiratory rate of a user while he/she is asleep. Apple Watch keeps a track of the respiratory rate at the night using the built-in accelerometer.

New Home app

The new Home app lets you keep a track of your HomeKit devices right from your Apple Watch. You can check your door cameras, check who rang your bells, turn on/off lights, and even track packages right from the Home app on Apple Watch.

Portraits Watch Face and Photos

The new Portrait watch face automatically crops the subject of the photo into the highlight. Apple says the new portrait watch face gives an immersive, multilayered effect to the Apple Watch. Moreover, Featured Photos now sync to Apple Watch, and photos can be shared through Messages and Mail with the new Share Sheet.
